Article 11 of the Treaty of Tripoli, effective since 1797, stated in plain English, and was signed by president John Adams (a Founding Father) that "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
To continue to falsely state otherwise is either misinformed or purposefully deceitful. And, as a library employee myself, I find it strange that the Freedom Caucus is suggesting "different perspectives" and "impartiality" as their positions for fighting LGBTQ rights. I can at least personally attest that my library has an IMMENSE collection of conservative ideologies and Judeo-Christian spirituality and doctrine. One merely has to show up and browse or section to see the multitude of ideas and perspectives we represent in our full collection.
That's the point of libraries. We are a communal source of education and information resources, and I implore anyone who reads this comment to reach out to your local library and investigate these claims yourself.
The St. Tammany Parish Library, as well as our parish council, has sold us out. Recently, Bill McHugh was appointed to the board. He is a scary dude. We are in trouble, here in St. Tammany.
The point is not that the US is founded on a religion, but that we are a Constitutional Republic. The library is a taxpayer funded entity, therefore taxpayers do have a voice in what is presented. I am a frequent user of the library, bringing my grandchildren there weekly. I’ve found many questionable displays in children’s areas & reported to my legislators & other parents. The ALA is headed by a person who is using the position to promote particular agendas, not just provide resources showing all sides & the consequences. Marxist/Socialist ideology is in direct opposition to our Constitutional form of government & is responsible for 213,000,000 documented murders since the beginning of the 20th century. Books promoting sexuality don’t belong in the minor section (under 18) of the library, neither should Drag Queens be before children.
Do the people who agree with this understand they're basically saying, "Please decide for me what my kid(s) can and cannot see or read. I trust you "Freedom Caucus" more than I trust myself!"
I trust them more that I trust a Marxist. Why should US tax $$ go to subvert our own US Constitution & the welfare of the children in our communities? THINK this through.
Louisiana Freedumb caucus trying to infringe on people’s constitutional rights? Fuck off
This is totally disgusting! What did they think that person’s priorities were going to be!

Who do we call to implore them to remove themselves from the ALA?

Many states are disassociating themselves from the ALA! And there’s an alternative association to join
