BATON ROUGE – The LA Freedom Caucus (LAFC) is excited to endorse two bills introduced by LAFC Executive Officer Phillip Tarver. HB295 proposes a constitutional amendment to establish a “Government Growth Limit” on recurring State General Fund spending, and HB283 is the companion statute that would take effect should the constitutional amendment pass a vote by the people.
This legislation creates a "Government Growth Limit" to put a cap on how much money can be spent on recurring expenses each year from the State General Fund. It limits these yearly spending increases by tying them to population growth and inflation. If revenues exceed the set spending limit, the money will go to one-time projects like roads or to paying off debt instead of new recurring costs.
“This is a bold step to rein in runaway spending and keep Louisiana’s budget in check,” said Rep. Tarver. “This legislation slams the brakes on reckless spending, safeguarding Louisiana’s future for our families and taxpayers.”
The LA Freedom Caucus urges passage of both bills to secure a prosperous, fiscally sound future for Louisiana.
