LA Freedom Caucus Applauds UPenn for Standing Up for Women’s Sports
Baton Rouge, LA — The Louisiana Freedom Caucus (LAFC) applauds the University of Pennsylvania for doing what’s right: correcting records set by male swimmer Lia Thomas competing as a woman. In news reports giving details of a settlement negotiated by the Trump administration, UPenn will also have to apologize to the women who were denied fair recognition.
"It's a long-overdue move that puts biology back at the center of competition" said Rep. Beryl Amedée (R-Gray), Chairwoman of LAFC. "Women shouldn't lose hard-earned victories to political agendas. UPenn’s decision shows the tide is turning."
LAFC has long fought to protect the integrity of women’s sports. UPenn’s action, while late, signals growing resistance to ideology that sidelines real female athletes.
"This is about fairness, not exclusion," Amedée added. "We urge other schools to follow suit."
The Louisiana Freedom Caucus will continue pushing for policies that ensure girls and women in Louisiana compete on a level playing field.
